Kangana Ranaut expresses difficult times in making Emergency
Kangana Ranaut expressed to the news agency ANI, “Bahut sangharsh raha…kaafi cheezo ka saamana karna pada (There were a lot of conflicts… we faced a lot of challenges). It was not an easy ride… It was filled with several hardships… We had to present this film to various communities. There was a film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, Director of that film had to commit suicide and such a situation was created for him. We got the courage to do this film because there is freedom of speech today. After overcoming all these obstacles, we are finally here. We have immense faith in our constitution, our country, and the censor board. It has now allowed us to share our film with audiences. We are eagerly looking forward to showcasing it to the world.”

The actress even had to sell her property in Mumbai after the release of the film was postponed. Reflecting on her journey, “I had no idea that I would endure difficult times while making this film. Usually, my films are produced with a comfortable budget. But this time, I encountered numerous struggles—whether it was related to studios or funding. The biggest challenge was the uncertainty surrounding the film’s release. We constantly wondered, ‘Will it ever get released or not?'”
About Emergency
Kangana’s second directorial effort focuses on the 21-month Emergency. It was declared by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977. Originally slated for release on September 6, 2024, Emergency missed its date due to a lack of clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film also faced criticism from some Sikh organizations, who alleged that it misrepresented historical facts.
After months of challenges, Emergency has finally received approval from the CBFC. It is set to hit theatres on January 17. Produced by Zee Studios and Manikarnika Films, the film features Kangana with Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik.
